Research Abstract |
Computer Animation can be considered as a sequence of frames. Frames are three dimensional computer graphics which visualize scenery around viewers. In order to model computer animation, structural model of frames is studied in terms of databases. And an object-oriented database for computer graphicsentities is implemented and the following results are obtained. 1. Scenery consists of three kinds of computer graphics entities. They are three dimensional objects which are to be visualized, cameras, and light sources. They are modelled by an object-oriented database management system ONTOS.These entities are combined to define a frame by partonomy. The partonomy allows users to query computer graphics contents without complicated image recognition and understanding procedures. 2. Graphical user interface for the animation database is built based on Tcl/Tk user interface building language. This interface alows users to manipulate database objects easily by clicing buttons on windows with pointing devices. 3. computer animation is generated to measure elapsed time for generating a frame and inefficient procedures for retrieving the three dimensional objects to be visualized are found. These kinds of spatial queries are to be one of the most important research topics, because the necessity for user interfacs based on computer animation increase year by year. 4. Database modeling of adaptive behaviors of three dimensional objects for their adaptive behaviors. In this case, a set of equations are extracted to represent the behaviors. Sutomatic selection of suitable equations are constraints according to their environment is one of the most important issues in this project and is going to be studied next year.
