Research Abstract |
[1]Simulation Surgery Using Laser Curable Resin Model (Laser Lithography) We have made the laser curable resin models of the following cases ; Normal skull, cranio synostosis (scaphocephaly and plagiocephaly) , deformity of the mandible and, fracture and defects of skull and facial bone.We have confirmed the advantages of simukation surgery using the laser curable resin models : (1) It is a virtusl 3-D image, as distinct to a 2-D visualization of a 3-D image. (2) The material used for a model is similar to bone in its hardness. Surgical bone saws and drills can be used for cuting and drilling the model. We can simulate the operative procedure using actual surgical instruments. (3) It is useful to confirm the operative technique. (4) In obtaining preoperative informed consent from the patient, the actual 3-D model makes explaining about the condition and its surgical correction much easier to understand. (5) For teaching purposes in medical school, it provides a clear and tactile teaching aid, giving instant visualization. (6) For training residents, it is possible for them to learn the initial basics of actual surgery on life-sized models, using the correct instrumentation. And, we have established the method of preparing implant for bone defects which is made of hydroxyapatite using laser curable resin models. It enable accurate preparing and to shorten the time for operation. [2]Simulation Surgery Using Non-Contact 3-Dimensional Shape Measurement System (Laser Light Scanner) We have made the models using laser light scanner of following cases ; microtia, breast asymmetry hemi-facial atrophy and microsomia. In microtia, we have obtained the new method of total auricular reconstruction which conbines the use of laser light scanner and tissue expander. In this method, life-sized mirror image model is used as a template.
