Research Abstract |
Development of an intracorporeal silastic hollow fiber membrane oxygenator capable of indwelling in caval vein was attempted for exclusive use of oxygenation for long term respiratory assist. A blind-ended silastic hollow fiber oxygenator was infused extracapillarily with hyperbaric oxygen controlled by a gas pressure regulator driven with voltage output fed back with signal from an ultrasonic bubble detector placed on the downstream blood tubing in order to prevent oxygen bubbling which appears in oversaturated state due to hyperbaric oxygenation. The system could keep maximal oxygenation without bubble appearance by feed-back circuit in a mock circulation.
