Research Abstract |
1) The level of endothelin(ET) in the plasma of pregnant women with pregnacy-induced hypertension(PIH) was elevated significantly than that of normotensive pregnant women. The level of women with severe PIH was Higher than that of women with mild PIH.ET may play some role in the pathogenesis of PIH.Otherwise, elevated ET level in women with PIH may reflect the damage of endothelial cell caused by PIH. The level of ET in the plasma of normotensive pregnant women with disseminated intravascular coagulation, however, was increased. The elevation of ET level in the maternal plasma may be derived from not only hypertension, but also disturbance of coagulation and injury of andothelial cell. 2) Atrial natriuretic peptide(ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide(BNP)were present in the plasma of pregnant women. The levels of ANP and BNP in the plasma of pregnant women with PIH were elevated significantly than those of normotensive pregnant women. Moreover, the levels of women with severe PIH were higher than those of women with mild PIH. The level of cyclic GMP(cGMP), the intra-cellular second messenger of ANP and BNP, in the plasma of women with mild PIH was increased significantly compared to the level of normotensive pregnant women, but not increased in the plasma of women with severe PIH.The production of cGMP by ANP and BNP to relax the vascular smooth muscle was impaired in women with servere PIH, but not in women with mild PIH.It may participate in the deterioration of PIH. 3) ANP and BNP were present in the fetal circulation. The levels of ANP and BNP in the umbilical venous plasma of distressed fetuses were elevated significantly than those of fetuses without fetal distress. The level of cGMP in the umbilical venous plasma of distressed fetuses was elevated, according to the increase of ANP and BNP levels. It may be a compensatory response to the fetal hypoxia. The results suggest that ANP and BNP may play a important role in the regulation of fetal circulation.
