Research Abstract |
1) Health level of workers in Kanto area Health level of industrial workers engaged in manufacturing plants in Kanto Area was lower than that of reference normals consisted of white collar workers in the same area. The THI scale scores on mental health and the 1st principal component score representing motivation, interest in job, development of job capability were positively associated in the younger workers, while the THI scale scores on physical health and the principal component scores of job consciousness were significantly associated in elder workers, which was similar trend to the results obtained in subtropical area. Eyestrains, other physical complaints and also depressivenss, mental instability were strengthened in the cases that shift work system was implemented. The more complaints of mental fatigue, the more trend of psychosomatics or neurtics was intensified. 2) Plasticity of behavioral characteristics In the comparison of physical indices of health between the ones with Typ

e A behavior characteristics (=Type A group) and the ones without Type A behavior characteristics (=non-Type A group), Type A group marked the higher values of GOT,GPT,gamma-GTP,TCHO,TG etc than non-Type A group, which is similar tendency so far reported in the field of adult health, behavioral medicine and other disciplines related. The results obtained in subtropical area were different from the outcomes obtained in Kanto area. The association between behavioral caracteristics and physical indices is affected by locality and the context involved. The higher distribution of the worker with Type A behavioral characteristics was observed in the age group of the 20's and 30's who are the major labor powers in enterprises and maintain good relation among superiors, peers, subordinates, irrespective of comparatively higher complaint of fatigue due to higher job demands. The results obtained suggest that the Type A behavior characteristics might manifest multidimensional features depending person-situation interactions. The authors expect the outcomes which is going to be carried out in the cold area in the northern part of Japan in 1994. Less
