Research Abstract |
The purpose of this research is to construct a new naming method for users to be able to look for computer resources by using descriptive names, which are new type of names and which can explain their attributes easily, and to provide a convenient way to access objects in an evolving distributed environment. When we want to use a computer resoutce, there may occur a problem how to identify an object in case we do not know its correct name of how to use it if we have no knowledge of its usage. A solution of this is to provide a function that explaining some properties of the object leads to identifying the object. However, current computer systems have a weak support of this problem. s of idenrification. Since aspects of identification may be represented as a sentence or sentences, I considered the meaning of a sentence as the reprentation structures. These will be a set of descriotive names ; 3) to introduce a notation of the descriptive names to be convenient for users ; 4) to construct a name management system of the descriptive names applying the modelling in the ISO ODP (Open Distributed Processing) standard ; and 5) to evaluate the new naming system in a evolving (that is, a distributed system, whose component may change) distributed system. I have proposed a new notation of the descriptive names which can describe aspects of an object with a simple structure. It supports the structure of a co-ordinate sentence and a recursive one. Users can represent descriptive contents based on their individual knowledge and freely add or eliminate some elements. There remains the following issues : detail design of the name management system considering th modelling of ISO ODP standard, and evaluation of the effect of this descriptive name system. Less
