(1) Development in Analytical Method An elasto-plastic finite displacement analysis method of steel plates under in-plane loading has been developed. The finite element method based on the hybrid models which use an extended functional in the variational principle is modified. A hybrid displacement model and a hybrid mixed model are examined and compared with conventional models about elastic finite displacement problems. After this comparison, a hybrid displacement model is applied and several numerical examples are demonstrated. (2)Steel Plates At first, clarified are ultimate strength and ductility of compressive plates of high tensile strength steel manufactured in Japan. The ultimate strength and ductility of the plates are estimated numerically, making use of an elasto-plastic finite displacement analysis based on FEM.Secondly, examined is relation between ultimate strength of compressive plates of high tensile strength steel and a lot of parameters, which dominate the ultimate stre

ngth and ductility. Comparing the ductility of the plates with that of compressive plates of mild steel, practical proposals for designing the compressive plates and promoting the high tensile strength steel. Finally, presented are the effects which steel property produces on ultimate strength and ductility of the plates. (3)Stiffened Plates The ultimate strength and ductility of stiffened plates, which are an basic element of plated structures, are estimated numerically, making use of the elasto-plastic finite displacement analysis on the basis of FEM.Based on the theoretical studies on relationship between steel properties and ultimate strength and ductility of compressive steel plates, in which it has been clarified that the ultimate strength and ductility of the plates are strongly influenced by plastic properties of steel as well as plate slenderness, the ultimate strength and duv$ctility of the stiffened plates are examined. Practical proposals for designing the compressive stiffened plates and promoting new steel are made. Less
