Research Abstract |
The climate inside clothing in summer on brush cutting sites was investigated. Individual differences in the climate of the chest and the abdomen were recognized. And the back was shut tightly and was affected by the direct rays. Four kinds of shirts for brush cutting were made from cotton and flax based on the above results. And it was recognized that the physiological load could be improved as follows. (1) By the neck wide open, the temperature of the chest skin were kept in low level and was stable. (2) When working hard under the hot weather, the humidity in clothing reached at 100% irrespective of materials and designs, and it became a matter of feeling. A flaxn shirt was comfortable because it adhered to the shoulder skin less than cotton shirts. The climate inside raincoats was also investigated. Usual raincoat of vinyl chloride had no ventilation and did not radiate heat, and was felt cold even when 17-18゚C because the sweat got cold. On the other hand, a Scandinavian forest-worker's raincoat did not felt cold because the sweat did not so get cold by moderate ventilation that it kept warmth. But it was felt cold when the temperature went down to 12゚C. The temperature inside clothing was 30-31゚C when rainy or yarding operations in winter. So, it was felt warm or cold according to the season and the weather. This value will be helpful in designing outdoor-workers' winter-clothing.
