| Research Abstract |
Despite the importance of accuracy evaluationg the change in the incidence of circulatory disease the entity of heart failure is far from clearly defined.
In the present study, we investigated the death certificates and each case history, these were stocked in the hospitals during 1990-1993 at Kanto areas.
As a results, we examined total 1,682 death certificates and the incidence of "heart failure (ICD-9 : 428)" as underlying cause of death. The frequencies of "heart failure" was 4.3% (A Hospial : 3.8% and B Hospital : 4.6% ) and 61% (A Hpspital : 65% and B Hpspital : 59%) of death causes were written in the 2nd column of death certificate (other physical conditions). Some of these conditions may be, or should be, involved in underlying cause of death.
Effort have yet to be made to improve the method for prepareing the death certificates and to establish a more reliable information system in the vital statistics.
