| Research Abstract |
In research from 1992 to 1994, a written survey and voluntary post-abortion recovery counseling were carried out among a total 508 post-spontaneous abortion patients serving as subjects. The results of the written survey revealed information such as : frequent post-abortion memories, frepuent post-abortion emotions, differences in thoughts regarding pregnancy immediately after and four months after the abortion, reasons for changing health care facilities after the abortion and relationship to the number of abortions, efforts to overcome the abortion incident, and post-abortion evaluation, satisfaction, and desired support regarding the role of the husband and other supporters during the grief recovery process.

strust on health care practitioners, and feelings of blame on the patient herself. Where health care practitioners or the husband was concerned, factors inciting emotions were most often related to pre-and post-abortion attitudes, but where in-laws were concerned, expressions of disapproval toward the patient were a seeming primary factor. A tendency for the brunt of these emotions to relate to cohabitants of the patient was revealed, as well as the fact that this complaint was significantly higher for persons cohabiting with in-laws than for those living separately. A tendency towords more easily confused feelings was also noted for persons experiencing an abortion and continuing the grieving process even after passage of more than for persons not experiencing an abortion.
Post-abortion therapy sessions (counseling) strengthened self-control over emotions by allowing the patient to express fellings, and such counseling was related to emotional stabillity. The effects of post-abortion counseling were ascertained from these facts.
