Research Abstract |
With the countdown toward the 21st century, a thought paradigm shift is underway in various academic and cultural fields. Although the manufacturing of artificial products is a basic activity of human beings, a review of the framework, in other words, a shift in manufacturing programs, is now underway. In this study, a new concept for BMS (Bionic Manufacturing Systems) based on DNA (Deoxyribo Nucleic Acid)-type information is proposed in order to introduce superior biological functions such as autonomy, self recongnition, self-formation, self-recovery, evolution ability into artificial system. The BMS is expected to be a decentralized system beyond today's CIM which has been suffering from limitations in flexibility for diversified market demands and adaptability against unexpected troubles. The biological information can be classified into two types, DNA and BN (Brain and Neurons). The former is a hereditary information depending on DNA and the latter is an acquired information like knowledges and rules carried by brain and neurons. It is clear that the former plays more important role in exhibiting the superior biological functions. The system realization considering the detail DIPM (Design Information for Product Morphology) and its generation, and the case that several works exist in the system is investigated. The example of the system which forms the tool path with the concurrent procedure, by selecting the tool autonomously and cooperately is developed. And 2.5-dimensional shape products is machined as a case study of this system. It is shown that manufacturing can be conducted by the decision making of the works based on the response of work and ribosome by computer realization.
