Research Abstract |
This study was carried out to make clear the high temperature mechanical properties and the microstructures of the friction welded joint of MA956 alloy. The friction welded joints were produced under the welding parameters, viz.the friction speed of 40/s, the friction pressure of 50MPa, the friction time of 2s, the forging time of 6s and the forging pressures of 50 and 150MPa. The friction welded zone was classified in region I, II and III in terms of the difference of microstructures. A grain size in the region III was in the range of 2 to 12 mum. On the other hand, grain sizes in the regions I and II were in the range of 2 to 4 mum and smaller than that in the region III. These joints failed at the base metal zone when the tensile tests were performed at room temperature and at 923K. However, the creep strength at 923K of these joints were lower compared to the base metal at 923K. The crack in the creep-tested specimen occurred at the interface between region I and II and at region II. This result shows that the good joints of MA956 alloy were obtained by the friction welding concerning with the high temperature tensile strength.
