Research Abstract |
A steering committee was set up ; it determined the fundamental policy for the coordination, made arrangements for the symposia on research plans and on results and also for the symposia on specific topics, once a year, to extend and deepen the research scope of the members. The Committee issued Free Radical Letters, about three times in each year, for promoting coordination and collaboration among research groups. The Steering Committee was held twice a year, working on how to forward the activities of the group as a whole. In order to aid the Steering Committee, the Representatives of the Five Research Groups met together several times in each year, and two of the five Representatives and the Coordinator (Head Investigator) discussed some urgent problems such as how to prepare for hearing. A book in Japanese entitled "Free Radical Science" was prepared by a few members based mainly on the results obtained in the present research, and an application was made to Grant-in-aid for publication of scientific research results for its publication. Seven members of the group gave talks at a symposium on "Materials-their Functions and Transformations" held on the 25th and 26th November 1996. Hirota obtained the following results : (1) observation and analysis of the nu_3 band of DCO and molecular structure and intramolecular potential function of the formyl radical, (2) observation and analysis of a near-infrared vibronic band and theoretical consideration on vibronic bands and Zeeman effects of the NO_3 radical. Development of a stimulated emission pumping (SEP) spectroscopic system for the analysis of the visible band of NO_3, (3) observation and analysis of SiH_2 5 mum bands.
