Research Abstract

当重点領域研究は平成8年度で4年間の研究期間を終了し、今年度はその成果のとりまとめをすすめた。主要な成果の1つは、X線天文観測衛星「あすか」によるラインX線の観測、データ解析、及びそれらの理論的モデルへの適用である。研究期間を通して多くの観測がなされ、今年度もX線天体のデータ取得、データ解析がすすめられた。それに加えて、研究目標のもう一つの大きな柱である。検出器の開発研究も引続きすすめられた。本研究領域全体として達成された成果は、多数の論文にまとめられつつあり、社会的にも全国紙の科学欄で多く取り上げられその内容が広く普及されつつある。これらの成果は「物質の起源」「構造形成」「銀河や銀河団の進化」等、現在の宇宙物理の最重要課題の解明に迫る質の高い重要なものであることが明らかになってきている。
成果の多くは国際学界でも高く評価され、研究班のメンバーは平成9年8月に開催された国際天文連合総会では「Hot Universe」と「Cosmic Chemical Evolution」の2つの大きなシンポジウムのChair,Co-Chairとして開催に主要な貢献をすることができた。
本研究では、以上のようなデータ取得・解析・論文作成活動を推進・サポートし、さまざまな国際会議や、国内会議などの機会を充分に利用し、また小規模の会合の開催、研究会の集録の発行により、研究とりまとめを行なった。
