Research Abstract |
As the result of our research in '94, we found that the computerization of Japanese Language Aptitude Test is not only desirable for the examiner but also for candidates for the examination. Since we could not supply the exact equal environment for each candidates at this time, even though the diserable result, because of the shortage of the numbers of computers and their uneven specifications. We judged then that the time is not enough ripe for the computerization yet and decided to concentrat on the revision and enlargement of the third edition of the Japanese Language Aptitude Test. 1.As for the grammatical analysis task, a new version based on Ainu language, which has many similar constructions to Japanese language, was proposed. However for average students it was too difficult, we made our mind to continue using the former questions used in the third edition. As for the visual ability test, Question 6 : figures recognition task and Question 9 : figures recognition task with masking were removed, and in the place of them we put the Kanji pattern matching task and the syllable orthography analysis task. As the result prediction validity were increased, this modification was available to be thought appropriate, though more data is necessary to prove that. As for the audio ability test, the number of questions in the phoneme distinction task was decreased and, in the opposite that in prosody distinction task was increased. In the sound memorization task, the phoneme was restricted to that recognized easily by any examinee of various native language. As a result of this modification, Alfa coefficient increased from 0.12 to 0.68. As mentioned above, the quality of each question improved much. While there are still some problems to solve, our goal is almost achieved.
