Research Abstract

1.We investigated the number of figures and tables, the quantity of pages of each chapter and the lists of final topics or summaries and key terms contained in about forty American introductory textbooks of economics. Then We analyzed those data quantitatively and qualitatively. The results suggest that those books are more useful in several respects than Japanese ones. They are as follows ; (1) the appropriate incorporation of realistic problems and the equal treatment of assertions of various schools, (2) the ways of composing contents to allow students to consider and discuss, (3) a number of figures, tables, topics and materials.
2.We surveyed the discussions of economics education which The American Economic Association had made in its annual reports since 1960. Those issues give useful examples as follows ; (1) how American professional researchers of economics have adopted the latest study ways into university education. (2) What strong concerns they have had with the teaching materials and methods suitable for various attributes of students.
3.We asked 39 questionnaires about the preparation for schooling, teaching methods and self-evaluation to 1140 teachers of economics and management at 20 national/private universities in Kansai area. The results indicate the tendencies as follows ; (1) the teachers at private universities are relatively more positive about self-evaluation than those of national universities. (2) Both teachers are rather affected with respect to the teaching methods and the use of textbook by the number of students within each schooling and the classification of subjects.
