Research Abstract |
Arrayd alkali-metal-clusters are generated in zeolite LTA crystals, and following results are obtained. (1) A ferromagnetism appears at the average electron density of 5 per K-cluster. The reason why the ferromagnetism occurs without any magnetic component is as follows. When the second lowest electronic state of cluster is half occupied with electrons, the cluster has the maximum magnetic moment due to the Hund coupling. If these magnetic moments have a common orientation due to the intercluster interaction, a ferromagnetism occurs at lower temperatures. (2) A similar ferromagnetism is observed in Rb clusters, but the ferromagnetism is weaker than that in K-clusters. The weakness of ferromagnetism is assigned to the larger itinerancy of selectrons than that in K-clusters. (3) A diamagnetism was observed in Na-clusters. In Na-clusters, electrons may have the singlet statet which is stabilized by the electron-phonon interaction.
