Research Abstract

In this research project we study the energy transfer process between the organic and inorganic materials and multi-photon absorption of organometallic compounds. Fluorescence properties of organometallic Langmuir-Blodgett films were investigated using lanthanide ion. LB films of terbium (III) with 2- (4'-dodecylbenzoyl) benzoate and palmitate mixture were prepared on a quartz substrate. The molar fluorescence intensity of Tb (III) LB film was compared with the solutions. Fluorescence increases by 1^4 times by incorporating Tb (III) into sodium 2- (4'dodecylbenzoyl) benzoate in the solution and 10 times by preparing LB films. Fluorescence anisotropy of LB films indicated that the molecules oriented in a certain direction on the substrate.
Furthermore the electroluminescence (EL) properties of organometallic compounds were investigated. The thin films of organometallic compounds were prepared on a ITO glass plate. In general those organometallic compounds can not exhibit a highly efficient EL intensity. In order to overcome this problems the novel radiative EL device was developed to excite the organometallic compounds using a needle type electrode. The sample excited radiative DC voltage exhibit a efficient EL light up to 500 Cd/m2. This novel techniques can be applied to any luminescent materials.
