Research Abstract |
Application of the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) method has been attemted in the medical field as a new diagnostic technique. In this research, we have systematically studied the NMR relaxatin times (T_1 and T_2) of water protons in the synovial fluid of human Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis. Using the values of the malignancy index derived from the relaxation times (T_1 and T_2) of these disease, it has been possible to discriminate clearly between Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis, and also to evaluate the effectiveness of chemotherapy in these arthritis disease. The malignancy index, furthermore, was compatible with the histological evaluation of the effectiveness of chemotherapy in these disease.
