Research Abstract |
We studied development of surgical simulation system paying attentions on fast interaction functions of virtual reality. First, we developed a virtual space manipulation system to operate 3-D image data interactively. As the basic functions, such as, moving, cutting, copying, removing and generation were developed. Through these functions, doctors can manipulate 3-D image data as real objects. A 3-D cursor function was also provided in the system. As the evaluation of surgical simulation of hip-joint surgery, distance mapping function is very important and developed in the system. Virtual reality technologies has a potential to innovate the surgical simulation. We surveyed papers on medical applications of virtual reality technology and made a preliminary experiment on the 3-D space interaction system based on virtual reality.
