| Research Abstract |
For an emprical study on adults' learning dcmands, we conducted a survey of students attending on extension lectures and evening clsses. The summary of this survey is as follows.
[Extension Lectures]
(1) 70 percent of students of extension lectures of Sophia University are college graduates. Most of them attended these lectures not to get the quallfication for graduates but to satisfy their intellectual interests or to widen their knowledge in dally life.
(2) Students chose extension lectures of Sophia University not because the lecturers are attractive for them or contents of the lectures are substantial, but because the time zone and tultion fee is reasonable, the unlverslty is conveniently located, .
(3) However, students are satisfled with lectures because of the lecturers' expert knowledge of their special field of study and thelr eagerness about lecture. These two factors urge students on learning and enhance thelr leatning effects.
[Evening-centered Classes]
(1) High rate of answers about adult's motlve for attending in evening-centered classes are "to develop my potential for future" or "to widen knowledge usefuf for my speciality". On the contrary "to be promoted" or "to change a job" are few.
(2) If there were no special sellection system for adult, half of the students thought "I have given up to attend the class, " On the other hand, many of them answered "I have attended a correspondence course of college", "I have attended an extension lecture of collge" or "I have attended evening class (general examination) of Fukushima University." These answers show the need for college, because it is important for students to get a high educational career.
(3) 60 percent of students are satisfied with college education. The main reason of this satlsfaction is content of lectures, and lecturers' eagerness. 40 percent of students are not satisfied because of the system of their college.
