Research Abstract

Today Japanese college and university undergraduate curriculum is directing to consumer-oriented career/culture -related one.J.Ben-David (1972) said that American colleges and universities developed when they were considered as placement agencies, historically speaking. And E.L.Boyer (1987) said that the push toward career-related education had come to dominate most campuses and, during the past fifteen years, it had dramatically increased in American colleges and universities.Recently, a similar phenomenon has been observed in Japanese colleges and universities. However, the college and university development process of two nations is very different.Although from the beginning, American colleges and universities have been practicing consumer-oriented education, Japanese ones have not functioned like those. In Japanese colleges and universities. However, the college and university develpoment process of two nations is very different.Although from the beginning, American colleges and universities have been practicing consumer-oriented education, Japanese ones have not functioned like those. In Japanese colleges and universities, the notion of consumer-oriented career-related education is a newly introduced one and it is a very much today's issue. Then, Japanese colleges and universities are now making sfforts to create their own curriculum development models under the national deregulation policy in higher education.
