Research Abstract |
This study deals with the growth-mechanism of clay minerals under different environmental conditions (physico-chemical) by mean of Au-decoration technique under the transmission electron microscopic obsevation. Based on these obsevations, circular, polygonal or malformed circular spiral patterns were observed on the surface of clay minerals, such as mica clay minerals (sericite, illite), kaolinite, pyrophyllite and interstratified mineral of mica and smectite.Different growth patterns on each clay mineral were obserbed, special attention to mode of occurrence of specimens. At first time, crystal growth patterns on the interstratified mineral of mica and smectite were clearly observed.Based on the observation, interstratified minerals seem to be grown by spiral growth mechanism.
