Research Abstract |
We studied hepatitis Cvirus (HCV) RNA among 143 subjects who had consumed at least 5 yr with liver diseases. The patients were classified into six groups by histological diagnosis as follows ; 7 patients with steatosis, 18 patients with fibrosis, 24 patients with alcoholic hepatitis, 39 patients with chronic hepatits, 42 patients with cirrhosis, and 13 patients with hepatocellular carcinoma. The presence of HCV RNA was 0% in steatosis, 6% in fibrosis, 8% in alcoholic hepatitis, 69% in chronic hepatitis, 57% in cirrhosis, and 54% in hepatocellular carcinoma. The ALT concentration among the patients who stopped drinking without HCV RNA decreased more rapidly than those with HCV RNA.As regard for HCV genotype, the rate of HCV genotype 2 was high in the patients with chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and hepatocellular carcinoma. In particular, all the patients with hepatocellular carcinoma had HCV genotype 2. The results suggest that alcohol has some carcinogenetic actions among the patients with HCV genotype2.
