Research Abstract |
We examined superoxide dismutase (SOD) mRNA in skin fibroblasts with dementia of the Alzheimer type (DAT). THE DAT patients were divided into three subgroups as follows : Group A : patients that developed rapidly ; Group B : patients that developed gradually ; Group C : patients that developed very slowly. We determined SOD mRNA levels by Northern blot analysis. SOD mRNA level in skin fibroblast decreased in DAT, especially Group A.The change of SOD mRNA was closely correlate with clinical course of DAT.The determination of SOD mRNA in skin fibroblast may be useful for the diagnosis of three subgroups of DAT.
