Research Abstract |
Radiation therapy is becoming important from the point of view of local control on tumor and quality of life on patients. However, the biological background of radio-resistant regrowing tumor, especially physiological factors of irradiated bed is ever unknown. In this study, physiological factors on tumor bed in mouse tumor model have been investigated using P-31, H-2 NMR spectroscopy and p02. Low energy status, slow ATP synthesis, low pH and low p02 have been noted in tumor bed. In parallel, there are low density blood vessels in tumor bed and a large number of micro vessels, tortuous vessels have been shown in non-irradiated control group. In conclusion, low enegy status and low nutrition status on tumor bed may give an early effect to regrowing tumor by analysis of physiological factors but further investigation will be needed to elucidate the relationship between local control and physiological factors on radio-resistant regrowing tumor.
