Research Abstract

The delayd adverse reaction (DAR) induced by injected contrast medium has been proposed since 1980's. Some surveys on the incidence of symptoms has been also declared around 3%. The time lap between the injection and the appearance of symptoms makes us hard to certify whether the symptom belonging to side effect of contrast medium of not, and the reported incidence may thus be higher than the true value if that the pseudo-side effects un-relating to contrast medium were not excluded. We have proposed based on a two phase study, that the incidence is increased by patients' psychogenic condition. Therefore, we designed this study to certify our conclusion. A total of 411 patients were randomly chosen from the list of two phases (first phase : a provoking sentence written in the DAR survey's hand-out was included, second phase : not included). They were subdivided into symptomatic and non-symptomatic groups, male and female. Each group contains about 50 persons. A set of documents including The Cornell Medical Index and Yatabe-Guilford personality Inventory quetionnaire was sent to each patient. Recovery rate was 72%. The result of data obtained shown that there was no significance on sexuality, age, educational and marriage status between symptomatic and non-symptomatic group. More patients with Eccentric Type (EType) personal type were in the symptomatic group of the 2nd phase. there is also more patients with higher CIJ and total scores in the symptomatic groups. The results tell that the more sensitive, psycho-effected person may have symptoms un-relating to the contrast medium injected.
