Research Abstract |
Clinical trials of Dynamic Cardiomyopalsy, which is a technique of circulatory support using a latissimus dorsi muscle, will be begun soon in Japan. Under the concept that sufficient animal experiments before clinical trials is indispensable, we have been carrying on developing an implantable skeletal muscle stimulator for animal experiments(MCMS-1110), which will be able to satisfy the various demands of investigators in this field. We implanted MCMS-1110 into dogs for testing long-term reliability. In the 7 trials, 3 stimulators continued to operate for 181 days, 234 days and 349 days, respectively. By the analysis of theses results, we concluded that MCMS-1110, which has the problems ; its size, battery capacity, electrodes etc. at present, will be a favorable and reliable stimulator by settling these problems. A excellent heart failure model is indispensable for evaluation of effects of Dynamic Cardiomyoplasty, and the rapid pacing method seems to be the most favorable one. As there is no implantable stimulators having the rapid pacing mode in Japan, we started the study to develop the new implantable stimulator which has rapid pacing function by adding the function to the MCMS-1110. Succeeding the main characteristics of MCMS-1110, we make the new implantable stimulator : MCMS-1111. MCMS-1111 can stimulate a heart with maximum 350 bpm by changing the ROM of MCMS-1110, and now we are carrying on animal experiments to evaluate its potentials.
