Research Abstract

A questionnaire was set out on 423 vocational high school (agriculture, industry and commerce course) sampled from the whole country. 65% of the questionnaire cards were recovered. The results are as follows :
(1). Supplementary materials have playd an important part in vocational education in high school.
(2). Supplementary materials were able to divided into the following classes : materials as substitute for textbook (A material), ancillary materials (B material), materials to deepen educational contents (C material) and reference book for vocational qualifications (D material).
(3). Many D materials were used in every courses. But there were some cahracteristics in use of supplementary materials in each courses. Mainly, B materials were used in agricultura course, A and C materials were used in industry course, D material were used in commerce course.
(4). The average number of the supplementary materials used in each courses were 3 to 4 per head. In many cases, the expenses were charged to students.
(5). 75% of agriculture course, 20% of industry course and 10% of commerce course used supplementary materials developed by educational facilities in each prefecture, respectively.
(6). 35% of industry course, 32% of commerce course and 20% of agriculture course used supplementary materials developed by each schools, respectively.
(7). It became clear that there were many and various problems (ex.teachers' overwork, high cost of the materials, delay of the revision and copyright, etc.) in the development of supplementary materials both in school and educational facilities in each prefecture.
