Research Abstract |
Using several varieties of Japanese pear (Pyrus serotina Rehd.) , each of which has known genotype in regards to self-incompatibility, proteins extracted from the stylars were analyzed by two dimensional gel elecctro-phoresis. As the results, self-incompatibility-related RNases which cosegregate with S-genotypes were identified. The RNases were dificient in a self-compatible mutant of Japanese pear. N-terminal aminoacid sequences of the RNases showed clear homology with S-RNases of Petunia. Applying the above results, self-incompatibility-related glycoproteins in styles of apple (Malus x domestica) were identified. The self-incompatibility genotypes for more than ten varieties were determined. Self-incompatibility-related RNases in Pyrus communis were studied. Loss of one of S-RNases was confirmed in self-compatible cultivars.
