Research Abstract |
In order to clarify variation mechanisms of the earth's environment, it is necessary to establish a meteorological observation network over the Indonesian maritime continent. In this study we attempted to survey contexts of almost all the atmospheric observations so far made in Indonesia, and tried to do fundamental researches to establish an observation network in the future. In this fiscal year (1995 ; the final year of this two-year study) we have made data analysis and have summarized the results of this study : (1) Survey on the operational meteorological observations : Rainfall data observed during recent several years at about 80 stations of the Indonesia Meteorological and Geophysical Agency (BMG) have been collected. (2) Survey on the special atmospheric observations : Observational studies carried out by the Indonesian govermental agencies such as the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) , the National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN) and the National Institute of Science (LIPI) and universities such as the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) have been surveyed. (3) Feasibility study on advanced international collaborations : Detailed discussions on the development of advanced observation techniques have been made between atmospheric scientists of Japan and Indonesia. (4) Planninng of integrated observation projects : The results of this study and the perspectives of more integrated studies following this study have been discussed at several meetings in Indonesia, and finally summarized at a meeting in Bundung during March 10-12,1996. In particular, the interannual, seasonal, intraseasonal, equatorial-wavelike and diurnal variabilities of rainfalls in various regions over the Indonesian maritime continent obtained by (1) are highlights of this study. These results are soon submitted to international scientific journals and will be apreciated as an important acheivement to clarify the earth's environmental variations.
