Research Abstract |
The major products on the "Serological study on echinococcosis and cysticercosis in 1994", financially supported by a Grant-in Aid for Scientific Research (the Joint Research, International Scientific Research Program) are as follows. 1. Differentiation of active cases from inactive cases in alveolar echinococcosis : Antibody response against the previously undescribed epitope, Em18, is a good marker for the presence of active lesions in alveolar echinococcosis. This work has been published in the two papers : the 1st is by Ito & Schantz (1993), the 2nd by Ito, Schantz & Wilson (1995). 2. Differentiation of alveolar echinococcosis from other parasitic diseases including cystic echinococcosis : Antibody response against Em18 is good marker for alveolar echinococcosis, whereas that against Em16 is for cystic echinococcosis. This work has been published in several papers : the 1st is by Ito et al. (1993), the 2nd by Ito, Wang & Liu (1993), the 3rd by Ito et al. (1994), the 4th by Wen et al. (1995). Three other papers are just submitted. 3. The establishment of a new ELISA system : Partially purified Em18 and Em16 enriched fraction is highly useful for differentiation of active alveolar echinococcosis from other parasitic diseases including cystic echinococcosis. This work is under preparation for publication. A total of 13 papers on echinococcosis and cysticercosis have been published or in press and other three have been submitted for publication and another one is under preparation for publication in the international journals. There are some other minor papers on experimental cysticercosis. Several review papers on echinococcosis and cysticercosis in English and Japanese also have been published or in press. These products including unpublished collaboration work are highly informative and fruitful for further collaboration project on "Molecular-Immuno-Biology of Echinococcosis and Cysticercosis" which starts from 1995 for three years.
