Research Abstract |
This project started on April of 1991. The first phase finished successfully on March of 1994. Then the project was continued to proceed to the second phase on April of 1994. In the second phase the subject of superconducting copper oxides was added, and Prof.W.Y.Liang, Director of IRC in superconductivity in University of Cambridge, was invited to join the our UK-Japan collaboration group. The aim of the 5-year collaboration was to elucidate the properties of semiconductors and superconductors with low dimensional structures, by combined theoretical and experimental studies exploiting the complemental strengths of the two countries. This project has been conducted in a unique way, in addition to individual visits to and from Japan and the UK.That is, the British members brought good samples made by the SERC projects on LDSD in the UK into the Megagauss Laboratory in Institute for Solid state Physics (ISSp) in University of Tokyo to carry out experiments by a joint EPSRC-Monbusho team. Then results have been analyzed by the collaboration of theorists and experimentalists in the joint team. In this collaboration an extremely pleasant atmosphere has been created between UK and Japanese scientists. This friendship has led the present collaborative work most successfully, and a number of outstanding results have been obtained. As regards the project of superconductivity Kamimura and Liang will continue to collaborate until the 1997 academic year by the sponsorship of the British Council Tokyo office. This is also a remarkable ourcome of the present UK-Japan collaboration.
