Research Abstract |
Takei visited Dr.Balment of Manchester University to conduct following experiments using flounder. (1) Papaverine, a vasorelaxant drug, was injected into the flounder, and the time course of drinking rate, plasma angiotensin II and vasotocin levels were measured. The effect of angiotensin II inhibition on drinking rate and plasma vasotocin level after papaverine was also examined. (2) We sequenced eel atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) in eels for the first time in fishes. Synthetic eel ANP was injected into European eels, and the time course of change in drinking rate and plasma vasotocin level was examined. 2. Hyodo also visited Dr.Balment and conducted the following experiments. (1) He found that the expression of vasotocin mRNA decreased after transfer of rainbow trout to seawater, and Dr.Balment found that plasma vasotocin level in the rainbow trout increased after transfer to seawater. Thus, they worked together to conduct similar experiments in the flounder. (2) The time course of change in vasotocin mRNA expression in the paraventricular nucleus of the trout brain was examined by Northern blot analysis. 3. Hamano visited Dr.Hazon of University of St.Andrews and conducted the following experiments. (1) She had worked with Dr.Hazon previously for the vasopressor effect of angiotensin II in the dogfish, and found that mechanism of the pressor effect was quite different from that of other animals. She further analyzed the mechanism using an isolated aortic ring of dogfish. (2) She also examined the vasorelaxant activity of homologous C-type natriuretic peptide using isolated aortic ring of dogfish.
