| Research Abstract |
In the northeast area of Thailand around Khon Kaen City, there are some serious problems of natural conditions (salty soil, acidic soil, poor water irrigation, unstable rainfall etc) in agricultural industry. In this project, research members of both university discussed with these problems and determine the present condition of agriculture (especially in the plants of crops, horticultural plants and useful medicinal plants) performed in this area. The members also discussed on prospect of the application of biotechnological techniques for the stable production of useful plants in this area.
In the period (1994-1996) of this project, six members of Saga University visited Khon Kaen University. They discussed with all counterparts of this project about the results and prospects of the cooperative researches in the project. lty of Science and Faculty of Education of Mahasarakham University, Thai women researchers in Mahasarakham University, president, dean of faculty of agriculture (Prof.Chareinsak Rojanaridpiched) and professors (plant tissue culture researcher) of Kasestat University. They visited some research centers in north east part of Thailand such as medicinal plant garden of Mahasarakham University, Thai ornamental and medicinal plants in northeast part of Khon Kaen, Chulabhorn Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University and orchid farms in Bangkok. They investigated the useful plants of Thailand such as Thai ornamental and medicinal plants in Ayutaya province, Thai medicinal plants in Chulalongkorn University and Thai ornamental and medicinal plants in northeast part of Bangkok.
From Khon Kaen University, eight members was invited to Saga University. They researched with their counterparts about the new technique of plant tissue culture. Mainly, they studied the useful methods for the application of quality improvement and mutational breeding of vegetables and horticultural plants. They also learned the analytical methods for chemical determination of secondary metabolites of useful plants. They had the lectures about the present research works on horticultural breeding in Thailand for the students and teachers of Saga University. They also visited some agricultural research center and facilities in Saga and Kumamoto prefectures and learned the regional agriculture techniques and discussed with the researchers giving some informations of agriculture in Thailand.
