Research Abstract

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the actual state of the training institutions of the Japanese teachers and to provide basic materials for examing how a proper form of the training course should be in the future. The study tries to meet the indication made in On the promotive measures of Japanese language education (Report of the Comittee of the Research Collaborators), compiled in July 1992, that is "to investigate the actual state of the training course for the Japanese teachers in the unversities and other institutions and to examine the educational contents including practice teaching in the training institutions."
In this study, therefore, in addition to the investigation of the actual conditions, questionnairing has been conducted soliciting frank opinions for the "incumbent" and the "learned" who are interested in Japanese language education. of 235 questionnaires sent to the "incumbent", 151 have been returned and of 244 sent to the "learned", 135 have been returned.
As the study proceeds, there appear many problems problems to be examined and analyzed. However, summing up the present study, a report will be compiled on the results of the analysis based on the materials collected during, these two years. In this report positive proposals will be made in addition to the analysis of the status quo.
This report will hopefully be utilised as important basic materials to examine a proper form the training of Japanese teachers should take in the future.
