Research Abstract |
The Balloon-borne Experiment with a Superconducting magnet Spectrometer (BESS) has been carried out in a collaboration amongst National Laboratory for High Energy Physics, University of Tokyo, Kobe University, Institute for Space and Astronautical Science. The ballooning has been supported by NASA. Search for cosmic-ray antiprotons has been perfomed, and more than 40 cosmic-ray antiprotons have been first detected in an energy range of 0.5-1 GeV with the identification by a direct mass measurement. Search for antihelium has been also made and no candidates have been detected in a rigidity range below 16 GV. Those results have been published or to be published in Physical Review Letter or The Astrophysical Journal.
