Research Abstract |
We have employed the micro-prlling down (mu-PD) method in order to overcome the difficulty in growing non-congruently melting KLN crystal of sufficient size and of reasonable umiformity of crystal composition. KLN could be formed as a small diameter fiber (200mum) with high growth rate (6mm/h) by mu-PD method. This system could make possible to grow non-congruently melting crystal with uniform conposition and high quality. Since the much smaller deviation from starting composition of the melt occurring in the growth of thinner fiber crystal, it is possible to maintain a certain composition in the solution during growth and to help in fabrication of uniform crystal in composition. Also, fewer thermal distortions and dislocations were introduced in the thinner fiber crystals. By using these fibers, we have observed blue light by frequency doubling of cw Ti : saphhire laser at RT.We have obtained 0.6mW blue output power from single pass SHG at an input power 700mW of cw Ti : Sapphire laser. The temperature and wavelength acceptances of the KLN fiber were 2.5゚C・cm and 0.4mm・cm at room temperature, respectively.
