Research Abstract |
Twenty two novel polyfluorinated cationic single chain surfactants, double chain ones, and their hydrocarbon analogues have been synthesized. The polyfluorinated cationic single chain surfactants form micelles in water and reversed micelles in toluene. A detailed NMR study has revealed that the perfluoroalkyl groups extend their chains straight forward to the outer sphere of the globular micells.The double chain surfactants also form vesicles in water. The microenvironment of the polyfluorinated micelles, reversed micelles, and vesicles was characterized by observing photochemical behavior of dyes incorporated in the surface polyfluorinated molecular assemblies.
