Research Abstract |
The aim of this study was focused on the development of new treatments for intractable otitis media with effusion (OME) in children and adolescents which cause most of the middle ear inflammatory diseases in adults. Low-dose long-term macrolide administration was found to be effective in the treatment of intractable otitis media with effusion (OME) accompanying nasal sinusitis. For cholesterol granuloma, a combination of peroral steroid (0.5-1.0 mg/kg per day of prednisolone tapering for 10-14 days) and transtympanic ventilation tube insertion resulted in a good outcome. For intractable OME accompanying a eustachian tube with excessive patency, injection of athero collagen into submucosal space of the eustachian tube guided by an endoscope was found to be effective.
