Research Abstract |
Plasma neuropeptide Y (NPY) concentrations were detected in 63 cases with neuroblastoma (NB) and 64 cases without NB.Sensitivity and specificity of NPY on the diagnosis of NB were 86% and 82%, respectively. Plasma NPYs in Nb cases were significantly higher in cases of mass-screening negative cases, advanced ataged cases, high LDH or NSE cases, cases with UH of Shimada and N-myc amplified cases than counterparts of those cases. Urinary NPY was measured and NPY like immunoreactivity from 40 to 200 pg/ml in concentration was detected. It was found that major component of NPY in urine shifted to low molecular weight area. It was considered NPY to be metabolized at the urinary system and to be possible to measure urinary NPY concentrations. Urine NPY concentrations were detected in 17 cases with NB and 10 cases without NB.Urinary NPY concentrations in NB were not higher than those of other cases. Urinary NPYs significantly correlated with plasma NPYs but did not correlated with stages, ages, tumor sites and mass-screening. Immunohistochemistry of NPY and Ki-67 was done in 37 NB cases. Well differentiated tissues showed high NPY expression and low Ki-67 expression. Highly NPY positive tumor tissues tended to be lower Ki-67 expression.
