| Research Abstract |
The purpose of this study was to develop the driving attitude scales for young drivers. Questionnaire I composed 111 attitude items was administered to 448 university students. 9 scales were constructed by item analysis based upon factor analysis methods and a high internal consistency was obtained in each scale.
Questionnaire II composed 96 attitude items including 83 items of 9 scales was administered to 2,256 drivers of all ages. Factor analysis, canonical discriminant analysis and validity analyzes revealed highly valid 7 scales for not only yound drivers but also all ages drivers. Those were named Pleasure seeking driving attitude, Negative attitude toward traffic rules, Aggression on the road, Anxiety on the road and Lack of concentration, Ignorance of parking inhibition, Rigid obeydience of rules, and Negative attitude toward seat belt.
We published a booklet of "A Study on Scale Construction of Young Drivers' Driving Attitude" as a summary of research for 3 years.
