Research Abstract |
The aim of the study is to make clear attributes of a contemporary transition of graduate schools, especially from the view point of graduate students. Different aspects such as entering into graduate schools, economics of graduate schools-tuition, fellowship, loan-, needs for training and careers after their graduations are examined. The principal results are as follows. (1) According to analysis of the survey that had been carried out by the other project, combined with other official surveys, profitability of graduate schools was examined.current wage rates of graduates are five percent points less than the 'break even' for master course graduates, 12 to 17 for doctor courses. (2) Some demand and supply of R&D personnel in coming years are simulated. Though the original forecast had been carried out by the other project, circumstances around the market of R&D personnel has been moved on. Then, some simulations are performed again. According to simulation results, market condition in the R&D personnel market will become increasingly tighter. So, it would be necessary that education in graduate schools becomes more flexible and qualified. The project report, which was prepared in cooperation with some colleagues, deals different aspects of problems of graduate schools, such as research and training conditions of graduate students, a selection of going on to graduate schools and relationships between a academic career and education in graduate schools, and so on.
