Research Abstract |
We made surveys of the health consciousness and community sports practice of inhabitants of Hiyoshi Town in the middle Kyoto Prefecture in November 1994 and July 1995. Our findings are as follows. 1. The older generation group (60 years and over) takes most actively the community sports, including (1) individual exercises, (2) exercises with some people, (3) community athletic meetings, (4) sports programs held by the town authorities and / or the associations of community sports promotion. And the middle generation group (30 years through 59 years) is next in order of the community sports practice ratio, and the younger generation group (20 years through 29 years) was the fewest. But in (3), the practice ratio of the middle generation group is higher than the other groups. The significant differences on the community sports practice ratio is observed between the generation groups. 2. The older generation group answers significantly more positively than any other generation groups on the questions of making use of sports facilities in their neighborhood and having opportunities to be often instructed by sports instructors. 3. Thus, it is suggested that the lifelong sports promotion policy of Hiyoshi Town is mainly of benefit to the older generation group. 4. Not a few answerers are conscious of their own physical strength through taking the community sports. This shows a close correlation between community sports practice and consciousness of one's physical strength. Especially, consciousness of one's physical strength is strengthend by taking exercise with some or many people. 5. Their consciouness of community sports practice is classified into 3 levels. 6. This difference of consciouness is related to their actual community sports practice.
