Research Abstract |
I get the prospects for the problem "Why not the oligarchy, but the monarchy was appeared in traditionaly republican Florence". In the 15th century, the Florentine power structure fell in crisis, because of the enlargement of the power disparity not only between Florence and the subordinate cities, but also between her elites and her masses. To overcome this crisis, the elites concenterated the powers in their hands, but by the "republican" regime they could not overcome, because in this regime the power was exercised too small numbered people. In the 16th century, the monarch appeared to adjust the conflicting powers i. e. the different interests between abovementioned elements, controling the elites, and at the same time guaranteeing their socioeconomic vested rights. In my paper The territorial structure of the Granduchy of Tuscany, I showed the prosess to become courtiers of the elites, and the structure of territoral government under the Florentine monarchy.
