Research Abstract |
The object of this research is to complete the General Concordance of Modern Spanish Drama, which consists of twelve volumes of 600 pages. As the first 3 volumes are published in previous research granted by the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research, our task in this time is to finish the rest. In 1994, three volumes, vol. 4 (E), vol. 5 (F-K), Vol. 6 (L-M) were completed. We realized a comparison of other linguistic corpus of modern Spanish. In 1995, three volumes, vol. 7 (N-O), vol. 8 (P), vol. 9 (Q-R) were completed. We started the elaboration of the program for recognizing the Spanish verbal ending. In 1996, three volumes, vol. 10 (S), vol. 11 (T-U), vol. 12 (V-Z) were completed. The elaboration of the program for recognizing the Spanish verbal ending is completed. So far, the materials used for studies of Spanish language have been based on the intuition of native speakers, native checks by interview or the results of field works. Recently, computers begin to be used for linguistic studies and new methods named Corpus Linguistics are watched with interest, but the corpus themselves have been remained in individual research without being published. And it may be added that the scale of the corpus is relatively small. Our research treats the thirty theatrical works with five millions words is of large scale and it is expected that the General Corpus will contribute to the development of Spanish linguistic studies and lexicography.
