Research Abstract |
With the globalization of Japanese companies, the information technology to support global business is a critical issue. However, only a few attempts have so far been made at the study on the globalization of Japanese companies and its global information technology. In this research from 1994 to 1995, We analyzed the relation between the global corporate strategy and the global information technology in Japanese companies based on the answers to our questionnaire. In this analysis, the companies were classified into two or four groups in accordance with their international communication lines and their levels of sophistication. We clarified the following points with this research. First, Japanese companies are adopting different global corporate strategies under the different global information systems. Second, the building of global information systems has some difference according to the type of industry, the scale of the company, the growth stages of globalization, and its size of foreign operation. In 1996, we studied some new information technology in Japanese global companies and its global information systems, namely Groupware, Intranet, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Commerce at Light Speed (CALS), and Internet.
