Research Abstract |
Reflectivity measurements of Fe/Cr and Co/Cu multilayrs with different interfacial roughness have been done both on the TOP spectormter installed at KENS (Pulsed Neutron Source in National Laboratory for High Energy Physics) and on the TOPAN spectrometer at JRR-3M in Tokai Establishment of JAERI in order to know how the surface and interfacial roughness appear in the reflectivity curves. These multilayrs are well known to be show the ginat magnetoresistance effect which is belived to have a close relation with the interfacial roughness between the magnetic and non magnetic layrs. The claer difference of magnetic field dependence of resistivity was observed in the samples. The difference also appears in the reflectivity curves and it has been revealed that the reflectivity curve of neutrons is very sensitive to the interfacial roughness. Simulation program which takes into accunt interfacial roughness was coded in order to get the quantitative information on the interfcaial roughness. The Program can well reproduce the experimental results of reflectivity curves in the case of small interfacal roughness, however, fail to explain the case of large interfacial roughness. Improvement of the program is now in progress.
