Research Abstract |
Effects of the radial wall motion of a thin-walled stralight rubber tube conveying pulsatile flow of water on the fluctuations of flow velocity were studied expermentally using hot-film anemometer. In order to detect the radial motion of outer wall of tube, lasermicrometer was used. It was shown that the compiance of wall of test tube depends on the transmural pressure of tube (i.e.inner minus outer pressures). The results show that the correlation between fluctuation of flow velocity and the wall motion of tube is classified roughly into two parts according to the mean transmural pressure of a cycle. In the first part, the mean transmural pressure is positive and the turbulent intensity of flow decreases with increasing wall motion. In this region, the tube wall deforms elastically, and motion of tube wall suppresses the flow disturbance. While, in the second part the mean transmural pressure is nearly zero or negative, and the turbulent intensity of flow increases with increasing wsll motion. In this region, the motion of tube wall becomes more complicate. Non-elastic deformation of tube wall is accompanied by partially elastic deformation and the wall motion excite the flow disturbance. Then, the experimental results show that in the pulsatile flow through the elastic, tube, wall complince of tube to the flow pulsation plays and important role in the control of the flow disturbance.
