Research Abstract |
1. Fissidens in the Fiji Islands. All spepcimens of Fissidens reported or described from the Fiji Islands were borrowed from many herbaria in Europe and North America. Newly collected specimens by the members of Cryptogamic Expedition to the Fiji Islands organiezed by Hiroshima University were also studied. Twenty-nine species and varieties of Fissidens were recorded for the Fiji Islands by this study. Eight species and one vareity are new to the moss flora of the region. Six names were reduced to the synonymy. One species, F.pungens, is excluded from the moss flora of the region. 2. Diversity in bryophytes. The distribution of the species of Fissidens are studied in many areas in Asia and Oceania. Most species of Fissidens reported in Japan have wide distributional range compareing with those of Hepaticae. Many common species of Fissidens have been recorded in Japan and Oceania, especially New Caledonia and Fiji. 3. Fissidens in Vanuatu (New Hebrides). Based on the specimens collectedd by the Cryptogamaic Expedition organized by Hiroshima University, 15 species of Fissidens were reported. One species, F.subscabridens Broth.et Watts was reduced to synonymy of F.hollianus Dozy et Mok. 4. Study of sect.Amblyothalia C.Muell.of Fissidens.Sect.Amblyothalia of Fissidens was lectotypified, emended, and transferred from subgenus Fissidens to subgenus Serridium (C.Muell.) Iwats. List of species, with synonyhmy, belonging to the section, and excluded species are appended. Nineteen species are assigned to the section. Two new combinations, F.asplenioides Hedw.var.aegrotus (Bizot) and F.oblongifolius Hook.f.et Wils.var.longiligulatus (Broth.et Watts), were made.
